Tuscaloosa County stuns Northridge with goal-line stand to preserve 27-26 victory

Tuscaloosa News - A yard and a half. That was the difference in Tuscaloosa County's stunning 27-26 victory at Northridge on Friday night.

“We did not lay down once they started to come back in the third quarter,” said Tuscaloosa County coach, Jay Todd. “We continued to fight back and ultimately made a stop that won us the game.”

The Jaguars used only running plays to get in the end zone with three minutes to go.

Trailing by one, the Jaguars (7-3) decided to go for two.

The Wildcats defense, which already had forced a fumble and an interception, continued their brilliant play with a goal-line stand on the two-point conversion.

The Wildcats (3-7) then turned to their workhorse Damien Taylor to close out the game. The senior did just, running the ball down the field and taking time off the clock.

Taylor, a Troy commitment, finished with 203 yards and four touchdowns on 26 carries in his final high school game.

"It is easy to see that he is good," said Todd. "What people don't see is Damien running hills every day at practice, being the best leader he can be and giving full effort.
