TUSCALOOSA NEWS- The second half of the high school season in the Tuscaloosa area has arrived. Here is a look at three top games:
Thursday
Northridge vs. Gordo (Reform)
The Northridge Jaguars are looking to continue their undefeated season. Coach Mike Vickery says every game is important, so getting an opportunity to play a storied program like Gordo is important for building a winning culture.
The Gordo Greenwave also looks to stay undefeated. Junior quarterback and four-star prospect Tanner Bailey has the offense humming, averaging 44 points per game. The Greenwave is the second-ranked team in Class 4A by Alabama Sports Writer Association.
The game will be played at Reform due to Gordo's football field undergoing repairs. This is the first matchup between the two schools.
Friday
Paul W. Bryant at Central
Paul W. Bryant remains winless on the year. Coach Mike Vickery and the Stampede are improving each week – last weekend's win at Holt doesn't count as it was scheduled to fill a void created by a forfeit. The Stampede has lost by an average of nine points in its last two games.
Central looks to put a pair of wins together for the first time in 2020, coming off a two-touchdown victory of Marbury. Coach Rodney Bivens is in his first year as coach of the Falcons.
Central won 20-0 in 2019.
Escambia Academy at Tuscaloosa Academy
Escambia Academy, the sixth ranked team in the AISA according to the ASWA poll, looks to get its fourth win.
Tuscaloosa Academy has lost two straight and looks to turn its season around against one of the better teams in AISA. TA made it to the state semifinals of the Class AAA state playoffs in 2019 and defeated Escambia Academy 20-19 in the 2019.
