TUSCALOOSA NEWS- The 4-1 Hillcrest Patriots travel to take on the undefeated Northridge Jaguars Oct. 2nd. Friday night's contest holds region implications that can affect playoff positioning.
The Patriots are led by coach Sam Adams who is in his seventh year. Adams attributes his team's success to the energy and morale of the program he has spent his years building.
"Our guys are always so energized whether that be in practice, film or a game," said coach Adams. "In addition to our experienced coaching staff, we have a good mix of upperclassmen and lowerclassmen allowing us to be dynamic."
Sophomore quarterback Ethan Crawford leads the Patriots' offense along with senior running back Tyler Smith and three-year starting receiver Andre Syler, the all-time Hillcrest receiving yards leader. Senior defensive tackle Tramaine Chism leads the defense in his first year of football since eighth grade.
Northridge returned plenty of talent from 2019, including junior running back LiEric Street and a defense that surrenders only 8.8 points per game.
Adams hopes his strong defensive front can handle the physical and bully-ball nature of the Northridge offensive line and running backs.
For Jaguars coach Mike Vickery, it is all about containing Crawford and his big-play ability.
"Anytime you have a team as well-coached as Hillcrest, it's always a challenge," he added.
