TUSCALOOSA, AL. - High school soccer season has been underway in the Tuscaloosa area and across the state. Play will continue into late April and early May, when AHSAA and AISA championships will be wrapped up.
Here are some top Tuscaloosa area girls players to watch this season.
Savannah Aderholt, American Christian Academy: Aderholt combined for three saves with Olsen in the Demopolis win earlier this season.
Carolina Alvarez, Tuscaloosa County, Fr.: Alvarez is a freshman starter for the Patriots who is tied for the team lead in goals (8) and leads in assists (11).
Mallory Ballou, American Christian Academy, Jr.: Ballou, who was selected to the 2021 4A-5A All-State second team last season, leads the team in assists. Ballou is the daughter of Alabama football athletic trainer David Ballou.

TOP BOWLERS IN TUSCALOOSA AREA:Meet the 2022 All-Area high school bowling teams: ACA's Jacob Conway and Cate Olson take top honors
Aileen Charles, Northridge, Sr.: The Tuscaloosa News' 2021 girl's soccer MVP was the placekicker for the varsity football team. Charles' 15 goals and 15 assists helped land the senior on the all-state second team in 2021.
Amarii Johnson, Hillcrest, Fr.: A freshman striker, Johnson leads the Patriots in all offense categories including 20 goals scored.
Jaden Jordan, Hillcrest, Jr.: Jordan, who commands the Patriots defense that is allowed just six goals this season, also has one goal.
Tori Lantrip, Tuscaloosa County, Sr.: Lantrip is a senior defender for the Patriots and has started for four seasons.

Ava Mills, Tuscaloosa Academy, Jr.: The UAB commitment has six goals scored this year. Last year, Mills earned herself Tuscaloosa News' girls athlete of the week hnors after scoring six goals in one game.
Lexi Oats, American Christian Academy, Sr.: Oats, the daughter of Alabama basketball coach Nate Oats and a 2021 all-state honorable mention, has helped lead the Patriots to a 7-0-1 start, totaling six goals in her first two games.
Gracie Olsen, American Christian Academy: Olson, one of two whom shares goalkeeping duties for the Patriots, has allowed just one goal through eight games.
Lexi Segars, Hillcrest, So.: Segars, who is a two-year starter, has eight goals and three assists.
Maureen Shelby, Tuscaloosa County, Sr.: Shelby is a starter at left wing who has eight goals and seven assists.
Sophie Smelley, Hillcrest, Sr.: Smelley, a four-year player for the Patriots, plays midfield and has one goal and assist this season.
Morgan Smith, Tuscaloosa Academy, Sr: A four year starter for the Knights, Smith has accounted for six goals in the team's first three games.
Avery Williams, Tuscaloosa Academy, Jr.: The midfielder has helped lead the Tuscaloosa Academy to a 3-0 start, scoring 10 goals.
Abigail Woods, Brookwood, So.: Woods, who started last season and shared goalkeeping duties as well as playing striker, leads the Panthers.
