Alabama basketball's JD Davison declares for 2022 NBA Draft

TUSCALOOSA, AL. - Alabama basketball freshman JD Davison declared for the 2022 NBA Draft in an Instagram post Wednesday, joining his Crimson Tide teammates Jaden Shackelford and Keon Ellis in heading to the professional ranks.


Davison, the No. 13-ranked player in the nation for the 2021 class per 247Sports, played in all 33 games for Alabama in 2021-22, including six starts. The 6-foot-3 guard averaged 8.5 points per game along with 4.8 rebounds and a team-leading 4.3 assists.



Davison earned a spot on the SEC All-Freshman team and earned SEC Freshman of the Week honors on two occasions. Davison registered 13 games with double-digit scoring while leading the Crimson Tide in assists 18 times.


Davison posted 14 points, four rebounds, five assists, two steals and a block in the win against then-No. 4 Baylor. The highflyer helped secure the win against Houston with a game-clinching block.


In late March, Alabama coach Nate Oats commented on Davison's future noting his "gut feeling" was the highly touted prospect would turn professional.



The 2022-23 Alabama basketball team will look far different after several transfers and the Davison news. Seven members from the 2021-22 roster have entered the transfer portal, while the program landed one transfer with five returners and five freshman arriving.
