Alabama basketball's Herb Jones was announced as a finalist for the Naismith Defensive Player of the Year on Tuesday morning.

Jones joined Davion Mitchell (Baylor), Evan Mobley (Southern Cal) and Neemias Queta (Utah State) as the four finalists for the award.

The winner will be announced April 4 between the Final Four and championship games.

Jones, a third-team AP All-American, has been named SEC player of the year by coaches and media and SEC defensive player of the year by coaches. He leads the team in rebounding (6.5 rpg), steals (1.8 spg), deflections (106), floor dives (21) and blocked shots (1.1 bpg), and ranks second in charges taken (13).

The award would be the first Naismith trophy in Alabama basketball history.
