TUSCALOOSA, AL. - Montana Fouts broke the all-time record for most strikeouts in an SEC tournament in the championship game against the Florida Gators Saturday afternoon.
In the quarterfinal win, Fouts tied former Alabama pitcher Alexis Osorio for the SEC record for number of strikeouts in a single SEC Tournament game with 15. Osorio did it in 2017 when she struck out 15 Texas A&M Aggies in 10 innings.
In the semifinal win, Fouts struck out 13 Volunteer batters in route to a 6-5 come from behind victory.
On Saturday, she entered with 28 strikeouts, nine shy of Britni Sneed's (LSU) 20-year record.
Fouts struck out her the 10th and 11th batter in the sixth inning against the Florida Gators bringing her strikeout total to 39 and breaking Sneed's record. . The tenth strikeout was also her 17th appearance with 10+ strikeouts and 10th against an SEC opponent.
